Humanity for Dummies

Like a plastic bag in the storm of misery, lawlessness and apathy , humanity is like a lost cause. Drifting from place to place in a faint glimmer of hope, that someday it has an established existence and not only a faux and temporary feeling that only comes when we see pictures of bombed children or abandoned dogs. We have divided ourselves in to so many races , castes and creeds that we forget that we are more similar than we are different , everything boils down to – where are you from ? what god do you believe in ? what is your race ? do you speak English ? We fail to notice the very basic fact and that is – there are no superior races or inferior races , there is one race that is human race , period!

This thin thread of humanity has the power to bind us together despite our differences. We are different and in accepting this , we accept everyone who is within the established norms of our “normal” yardstick or beyond it , if every human was to do so , this alone will be a great achievement for us. The differences within , give us flexibility which makes us better and empathetic , and somedays it is enough to hold an helpless hand and give a shoulder to a crying head (nothing fancy, just empathisers).

We fail to see the effect of wars and bloodshed , when we realise in the hindsight , it is way too late and yet make the same mistakes over and over again. We are killing our own people , which is like cutting the very branch we are sitting on , because when we suppress a section of people for too long a retaliation is bound to come, and this enters into a vicious cycle for revenge and suppression. Today’s Syria , both the world wars and many more such examples lie in front of us and yet to fail to see them. These killings, mishappenings personifies foolishness and blinded judgement and doing it in the name of the GOD , is like blaming a witness for the crime rather than the criminal. Afterlife may be a myth, and punishments we get in afterlife may also be a myth , but in all the religions in the world , none of them guarantee a heaven for those who take innocent lives . Humanity doesn’t demand hard rituals or ostentatious drama ,just helping the ones who need help, facilitating growth and (somedays) even staying quiet when we have nothing good to say.

Humanity is not one stop solutions for all problems but it makes sure that nobody is alone in their struggle to exist. The pre-requisite of a kinder heart is an open mindset, where we leave our self made identities behind , and follow the ones which we were born with, where we can all be one regardless of the barriers, which divide us. It is not very demanding to learn to respect people for their own thoughts and to accept them as they are.

Recently , in Kerala floods , lots of heroes came forward who were basically simple people living normal lives . From small donations , to donations of salaries , it created awareness and hope for a better society which extends their arms to people in distress and comes forward for their own. This highlights that if there are people who have partisan tendencies then there are more people who want to unite. For every terrorist there is , there is a social worker working to making their valuable contribution.

According to the Chinese mythology of Ying-Yang ,there is both good and bad in every being. To understand this we may imagine that there are two wolves inside us , living with each other , side by side but there is one which is related to all the good things we do, it is the better version of us, it does not create any harm along with that has the power to change the world and second wolf which is diametrically opposite , it is the one which is prejudiced, harms people, hurts them, judge them ; Our brain feeds them on the basis of our actions , not huge ones only but also the smaller ones , it depends on our perceptions and intent that which wolf is being fed.

Today, we not only need powerful verses but also kinder words , we don’t only need laws, but also the understanding to make this world a better place.

Martin Luther King Jr. said , “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”

If the description of world we live in today is that people cannot be trusted and no one is safe is not really promising advertisement for aliens is it? ,and probably that is why aliens don’t visit us. Jokes aside , the fear of getting killed because someone was simply being what they were and was saying what they believed in, should make anyone wonder, is this what we wish to give our future generations? Have we really evolved or we are going towards the our own extinction? I don’t know , maybe even you don’t , but you know what , there is this wonderful thing we have at the end of this dark tunnel which is the light of hope , and this light will one day guide us home!
